I think I can fix this with liquid metal and new thermal pads. The only downside to the 3060 right now is the GPU is a little hotter at 70c vs the 3070 at 66c. So I’m testing both models for stability.

I don’t know I really don’t think paying $1400 for the omen with 8 cores will give me a ton over the 3060 intel model at $950 either. I think if ASUS ever unlocks the 3060 to burst higher I could get similar hash rates and then it’s really not worth it for slight bump in games for the 3070. I don’t think the 7 m/hs and 240hz screen that’s a little brighter and 512gb more storage is worth $400 bucks, both 16gb 3200 ram. I got the 3060 model for $950 and the 3070 model for $1350. It doesn’t flex past 85w even with new bios but the 3070 flexes up to 90w but the mining hash rate between the two is not huge looking at 39 m/hs with 3060 and 46 m/hs with 3070 anything more it seems to restart. I guess I could go for the 3070 version of the gigabyte a5, but again, that's still $700 more just for around 17% performance boost with all things considered. Not to mention that 1440p will be more demanding. The 3070 115w is only 16% faster on average vs the 3060 115w, and the 2 extra cores will likely only net 1-2% more performance if the 3600 vs 3700x and 5600x vs 5800x benchmarks are anything to go by. Ive been REALLY tempted to splurge for something like the zephyrus g15 and just vbios flash the 3070. These gpus run very cool from what I've seen and can easily handle the higher power limits, at the expense of higher power drain (if your power brick is low wattage this can be an issue I think). I'm hoping I can flash a higher watt vbiks, like the Strix g15/17's 115-130w 3060 vbios. That's huge! I ended up ordering a gigabyte a5 for $999 with the 3060 (90w target, 105w boost). That being said, I wanted to share my findings here to report that it is possible to flash for better performance. After the GPU heats up, sometimes performance remains at a level consistent with pre-flash maximums. Afterburner is reporting the GPU is only in the 60s range but I've seen some erratic behavior that leads me to believe I'm heat limited.

I'm going to keep playing with it to see if there's any more performance to be had. Keep in mind, the STRIX version of this laptop with a 100W+ TGP (and a better CPU) gets 10k in Timespy. Here's after an OC of +200 core, +471 memory with the 95W BIOS: Here's after flashing to the 95W BIOS (7506):

Download the 95W BIOS file from the ASUS TUF A17 here:.In the meantime, I decided to see if I could pull off a BIOS flash, and I did. I'm still debating whether I'm going to keep it. The quad core "i7" CPU (why Intel thinks they can call a quad core an "i7" in 2021 baffles me) and the low 80W TGP on the 3070 are not so good. I like the screen, the 1TB SSD and 16GB of RAM is good. I bought the ASUS TUF Dash F15 from Bestbuy for $1450. If you will be gaming, what are the most demanding games you will play and at what settings?
